I started teaching in Cairo, where I was fascinated by the interesting connections between Middle Eastern storytelling and English literature. This made me wanted to learn more about the connections between the two worlds. During my time as a teacher, I have had the opportunity to teach in both Egypt and the UK. This has allowed me to bring a special combination of cultural knowledge to the study of classic subjects. I have spent a lot of time learning about and sharing stories from the Middle East. I have done this through seminars, reading groups, and interactive sessions. My goal has been to show people the similarities and differences in literature from this region that they may not know about.
I think reading stories and poems should also make us want to make our own art. After reading, I ask students to try and make something new from it. They could write a new part of the story, make a drawing, or try writing a poem like the one we read. When they make something, it shows they really understood the story. Plus, it's fun to see how they imagine and dream up their own ideas.
For students wishing to enhance their reading and writing abilities, Nadia is a highly certified literature and writing coach. She has been teaching writing and reading comprehension to my sixth-grade daughter for the last two months. Nadia is smart, understanding, and a pleasure to deal with.
